Rebecca Stuckey - The Magic of Humans

Statement

My current pieces are an expression of my deep concern for the care of the earth and for the safety of all wildlife. It is hard for me to watch the destruction of the natural landscape without having it profoundly affect me.
I make fiber mixed-media pieces. I appreciate the earthy quality of the natural fibers that I use and their delicate and ephemeral nuances. My inclusion of written notes or stitched statements in my pieces offers an added layer of contemplation for the viewer.
I am inspired by nature and influenced by the Japanese sensibility of Yūgen. I love the Japanese use of design in their art and their fabric. Making each piece is a meditative experience for me.
